Tomsk Polytechnic University and Texas A&M University to cooperate in training masters and PhD students

Tomsk Polytechnic University entered into a cooperation agreement with Texas A&M University.

On August 13, a TA&MU delegation visited the Physical-Technical Institute of Tomsk Polytechnic University. The delegation consisted of nine people (lead lecturer, graduate and post-graduate students). One of the master's students on the delegation was Aleksandra Khudoleyeva, an alumnus of TPU's Physical-Technical Institute. On the previous day, Viktor Chubik, Rector of TPU signed a cooperation agreement with the Texas university already signed by Dr. R. Bowen Loftin, President of TA&MU.

The agreement involves cooperation in training graduate and postgraduate students, joint research projects and publishing the results in international scientific journals.

The cooperation with Texas A&M University, a leading technical university in the United States, started three years ago with active support from the US Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration and US Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. For two consecutive years students of the Safety and Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Materials Department of the Physical-Technical University did an internship and wrote their theses with Texas A&M's Department of Nuclear Engineering.

In 2010, TA&MU and TPU won the contest held by the US Foundation for Higher Education Modernization and sponsored by the US Department of Education. They obtained a grant for the development of master's degree programs in nuclear security application systems.

Background: Texas A&M University is listed in many global university ratings. It is a world leading university in the nuclear and oil and gas industries and one of the largest universities in the United States. In the 2011 World University Rankings TA&MU is on the 66th position among technology universities of the world.
