McDonald's plans to open its first restaurant in Tomsk in 2013. The University Grove is a potential location for the restaurant as it is popular among students. The number of restaurants may grow to four in the short run.

"Judging from the response of Tomsk people to our potential arrival, we believe that, say, four restaurants will start generating profit very quickly," said McDonald's Vice President for Russia Viktor Eidemiller at the meeting with Tomsk Mayor Nikolay Nikolaychuk.

According to Viktor Eidemiller, McDonald's and the student city of Tomsk "belong together" as McDonald's restaurants provide jobs for students and food and recreation for families and young people.

He also said that currently, the record high timeframe for opening a restaurant in McDonald's is 11 months. As for Tomsk, the fast food restaurant chain is ready to "beat" Metro Cash and Carry's 7-month opening schedule. Normally, the company invests 4 to 5 million dollars in each its restaurant.

McDonald's will use new design of its restaurants outside Moscow and St. Petersburg to match the architectural environment of the place.

"We have seen that Tomsk cares a lot about its architecture and we are ready to suggest solutions that will match the city's appearance and architectural environment."

Tomsk Mayor Nikolay Nikolaychuk and Deputy Mayor Denis Molotkov suggested specific locations for McDonald's restaurants. Among the options was a site in Moscow Tract near the University Lake. The Mayor said that the site is a potential location for a student campus in the future.

On the previous day the Governor of Novosibirsk Region Vasily Yurchenko discussed with Viktor Eidemiller the possibility to establish in Novosibirsk a McDonald's logistics center for Siberia.
