Tomsk Region the second in the Russian Innovative Regions rating

Peterburgskaya Politika Foundation, Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy, and RBK daily newspaper published their regular Russian Innovative Regions Rating. Tomsk Region yielded the palm to Krasnoyarsk Krai. In February, Krasnoyarsk Krai held the IX Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum "Time for Strategic Initiatives".

Last year's approval of the INOTomsk'2020 project secures the innovation path for Tomsk Region. This becomes especially important in light of the "innovative region" status.

The experts highlighted a number of important innovation-related achievements in Tomsk Region in 2012. According to the Peterburgskaya Politika Foundation, the most noticeable event in Tomsk Region was the start of a nanoceramic implants plant in the Tomsk SEZ. Also, two Tomsk universities – Tomsk State University and Tomsk Polytechnic University – were included in the Webometrics rating.

The "innovative region" status of Tomsk Region is also fueled by its active cooperation with Rosatom. The latter is considering creating in the Tomsk Polytechnic University a training center for nuclear power engineers.

The experts also considered important the decision to commit the development of a development strategy for Tomsk Region to World Bank experts.

Russian Technologies are creating a free software center in Tomsk. Three innovation projects from Tomsk won first prizes at the Silver Archer 2011 PR and communications award ceremony in Moscow. Presentation of the Skolkovo Tech Master's Program was held.

Also, the Tomsk Polytechnic University and R-Pharm have announced their plans to open in 2012 a big research and educational center to train engineers for the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries. According to reports by TPU-based small innovative firms, in 2011 they earned 40m rubles. Tomsk developers are currently working on a unique proprietary smart drugs technology.
