Tomsk Region Governor Sergey Zhvachkin had an informal meeting over a cup of coffee with foreign journalists in the Reception House of Tomsk Region. The meeting was held as part of a foreign media press tour to Tomsk Region of an unprecedented scale.

Sixteen representatives of international news agencies, TV channels and newspapers attended the meeting. They showed great interest in the region's economy, research and educational complex, and prospects for tourism, culture and sports in Tomsk Region.

Financial Times asked a question about forest industry development prospects and potential investment projects for foreign business. Al Manar TV Channel, Libya, was interested in the competitive advantages of Tomsk Region industry in the context of Russia having joined the WTO. EFE, Spain, asked about the region's inbound tourism development program. Romanian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company was interested in development prospects for a "single point of contact" for investors. The Xinhua News Agency inquired about the progress of the Russian-Chinese high value added wood processing project – the biggest project under the existing intergovernmental agreements.

"Tomsk Region is open to the world. It is one of the most actively developing regions in Russia. It is implementing projects with foreign investors in the commodity and high-technology economy sectors. The government's task is to create conditions and favorable climate for investors. We have already made significant progress and numerous visits by foreign ambassadors and businesspeople are a positive signal of that. However, there is still a lot of work ahead," Sergey Zhvachkin emphasized.

After the meeting Sergey Zhvachkin gave a number of exclusive interviews, including an interview to Reuter and one to Irani journalists representing Iranian State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company.

On November 13, the foreign journalists will visit the Tomsk SEZ and the companies Siam and Krasota SM.
