Two Large-Scale Nuclear Projects in Implementation in Tomsk Region

Rosatom has two major investment projects in the region — the creation of uranium conversion center and pilot and demonstration energy complex BREST-OD-300 with transformer nuclear fuel cycle. Leonid Reznikov, deputy governor for industry and fuel and energy complex, reported on their execution.

According to the deputy governor, the materials for license justification for industrial siting of the first project are now under state ecological review. The materials for license justification for industrial siting of energy complex are also being reviewed; design documentation is also coming along.

“The activities comply with the approved schedule. The scheduled time for pre-construction activities on both projects— the end of 2014”, explained Leonid Reznikov.

Vice governor also noted that, as part of agreement with the state corporation, scientific and educational potential of the region is being drawn along with the human resources and  R&D for the benefit of the nuclear companies. Representatives of Rosatom and TVEL are negotiating with the Tomsk universities and scientific institutes, discussing technological problems and their solutions, setting up agreements on specific research.

“One of the major results was the decision of Rosatom to create, based on National Research Nuclear University (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute), R&D center based on technology of rare earth products fabrication with the creation of a branch based on Seversk technological institute”, said the deputy governor.

In 2012 Tomsk Region administration office signed an agreement with Rosatom in the field of better conditions for entrepreneurship and creation of new jobs in Closed Administrative-Territorial Unit Seversk and on the interaction while taking measures under federal target program “Nuclear energy technologies of the new generation for the period of 2010–2015 and through to 2020”, as well as industry program of technological development JSC Siberian chemical plant.
