17.07.2014

Siberian chemical plant JSC (part of Rosatom fuel refiner TVEL) localized all Russian uranium conversion, according to Sergey Tochilin, head of the plant.

“Starting April 1, through the modernization of our production we’ve localized all Russian hexafluoride production at the plant. From the second quarter, industrial Russian hexafluoride production program is exercised at the plant,” says Tochilin.

According to him, SCP capacity in this regard has increased by 40%. “We’re carrying out all tasks and everything is according to the plan”, he mentioned. Tochilin also said that SCP hired two employees from other Rosatom enterprises, where the conversion had been abolished.

Presently SCP executes project for the localization of all TVEL conversion production. Thus, SCP will become the hub of uranium hexafluoride production in Russia, which is being used for uranium enrichment that is further used for nuclear stations fuel.  SCP reported that the construction of new conversion plant was planned for the end of 2013, the start of production was – for 2016.

Earlier the plant reported that investment into conversion production will exceed 7 billion rubles. Autumn 2013 Tochilin announced that the construction of the plant was delayed due to “sagging” of the uranium hexafluoride market after Fukushima accident. According to Tochilin, this gave the enterprise more time to work out the project more thoroughly.

Now the construction of the uranium conversion plant is planned for 2015, first order start – for 2018.
