20.10.2014

Tomsk came in 25 out of 87 cities at 2013 Environmental development rating, prepared by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation.

According to the Tomsk Region Department of Environmental Protection, the environmental situation in Regions centers was assessed by seven categories: air environment, waste management, water consumption and water quality, environmental impact control, transportation, energy consumption, land use. Tomsk came in 25 out of 87 cities and hit the top 10 cities with the best environmental impact control.

The rating's authors point out that the positions of many cities are worse than they could have been due to incomplete and incorrect data.

According to the rating results, the purest air is in Voronezh, Bryansk is the best at waste management and the water of the best quality is in Yoshkar-Ola. In total, the rating was headed by Ufa, Saransk and Vologda.
