The Tomsk region is the first region in inventive activity among regions in Association of Innovative Regions of Russia

The Tomsk region takes the first place at a rate of inventive activity, the second is the share of employees involved in scientific research and development, the fourth is on the innovation activity of organizations among the regions of the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia (AIRR). It is noticed in the report about the state legislation in the field of innovation regions - members of the AIRR, which has constituted a working group with the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

At a rate of inventive activity (the number of applications for patents for invention or utility model in 10 000 people) Tomsk region takes the first place among the regions of the AIRR with the result of 5.36 %, the Tomsk region is ahead of Tatarstan (3,72 %) and Ulyanovsk region (3,47 %). The Tomsk region is the share of personnel involved in scientific research and development in the economically active population (indicator - 1,68 %) among the three regions with Kaluga region (1,91 %) and Novosibirsk region (1,5 %).

In 2014, the regional authorities had supported the activities of region innovation infrastructure in amount of 2,53 million rubles ($1,6 million in 2013). In the past year, for small and medium enterprises were provided engineering services for $ 35,1 million rubles (8,7 million rubles in 2013). In the AIRR report there are two types of the most effective measures of the government support of the Tomsk region such as subsidies in the form of grants and scholarships, competitions of innovative entrepreneurial projects.
