February 1-2, a delegation from Great Britain including Caroline Wilson, Minister Counsellor at the UK Embassy in Moscow and James McGuire, Consul General in Ekaterinburg with his two assistants visited Tomsk. The guests from Britain learned about the socioeconomic situation in Tomsk Region and discussed opportunities for British companies to implement their knowledge and experience in the region. Their agenda included meetings with Aleksander Fedenev, Acting First Deputy Governor of Tomsk Region, Aleksey Pushkarenko, Acting Deputy Governor for Research, Innovation Policy, and Education, Aleksey Baryshev, CEO of the Tomsk Special Economic Zone, and the management of the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU).

The representatives of the Tomsk Polytechnic University were invited to join the work of the UK-Russia Joint Committee Science & Technology and take part in the closing events for the UK-Russia Year of Space 2011 in March 2012. During her visit to the TPU Petroleum Learning Center, Mrs. Wilson promised to help the management of the Center establish academic ties with Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

At the meeting with Aleksey Baryshev Mrs. Wilson and the representatives of the Consulate General suggested publishing the Tomsk SEZ's preferences in the monthly newsletter of the UK Trade & Investment and conduct a presentation of the SEZ at the UK Embassy in Moscow.
