SEZ residents increased imports 5 times

According to the Tomsk Customs Office, over the first six months of 2012 the residents of the Tomsk Special Economic Zone imported goods worth $1.535m, which is five times as much as in the first half-year 2011. The Customs Office processed 16 customs declarations following the free customs zone procedures.

The total customs value of the goods imported in the first six months of 2011 was 9.2m rubles, which is five times less than in the same period of 2012.

The Customs Office explained that the major portion of imports were parts for previously imported equipment for the SEZ residents.

In the first six months of 2012 the residents of the Special Economic Zone saved on imported goods 9.2m rubles, five times as much as in 2011.

Background

Tomsk Special Economic Zone of Technical Innovation Type consists of two sites with a total area of 207 hectares. Currently, the SEZ has 57 registered residents. They are exempt of paying property and transport taxes for ten years and land tax for five years. They are also granted profit tax and unified social tax benefits.
