Tomsk Region developing cooperation with Mongolia

16.11.2012

Tomsk companies took part in the business forum “Russia and Mongolia: Cooperation Prospects” and represented Tomsk Region at the 21st International Expo “Gates to Asia”.

The Tomsk delegation included representatives of Tomskcable, Micran, Biolit, Krasota SM, Tomsk Electronic Company, Agriculture and Peat Research Institute and Petroleum Chemistry Research Institute.

Investments in the mining and construction industries in Mongolia drive the high demand for cutting age technologies and materials that Tomsk companies can offer to their Mongolian partners. Food products from Tomsk Region are also very popular in Mongolia. Another traditional area of cooperation is education. Currently, almost 50 students from Mongolia study in Tomsk universities.

“We will continue working with Mongolia and all interested parties are welcome to join,” said Elena Ivanova, Chairman of the Russia and CIS Committee of the Region Department for International and Regional Relations.

Mongolia’s economy is one of the most dynamic economies in the modern world. Its growth in 2011 was 17.3 %. Key growth drivers are large-scale international mining projects.

In the first half-year 2012, Tomsk Region’s exports to Mongolia grew by 55 % and totaled 3.1 million dollars. Key export items are mechanical engineering products (electrical cables, electric motors), medicines and food products (juices, jams, confectionery).
