Tomsk Region signs agreement with Delovaya Rossiya

Tomsk Region Governor Sergey Zhvachkin and President of Delovaya Rossiya Business Association Aleksander Galushka signed a cooperation agreement.

The parties agreed to combine efforts and experience of Tomsk Region and Delovaya Rossiya in order to "summarize and systematize existing regional competition development practices". The resulting summary will become a basis for a new competition standard which will be used for the development of the Antitrust and Competition Roadmap as part of the investment climate improvement strategy which is developed under the National Entrepreneurship Initiative.

"Tomsk Region was the first region of Russia to have signed such an agreement with Delovaya Rossiya. Now the task of our investment sector and their counterparts in Moscow is to fill the document with maximum detail", Sergey Zhvachkin commented.

The Governor of Tomsk Region also had a meeting with the leaders of Delovaya Rossiya Association. The meeting was attended by Russia's Business Ombudsman Boris Titov and Tomsk Region Governor Deputies Yuri Gurdin and Andrey Antonov.

At the meeting, Sergey Zhvachkin placed great emphasis on the well-developed investment base in Tomsk Region. The regional economy today is based on the oil and gas industry but in the forthcoming years the regional authorities expect a breakthrough in science-based business.

"Looking back at history we can see that Tomsk Region is developing according to the same scenario as the Silicon Valley. It emerged during a financial crisis when universities started to spin off innovative firms."

Having discussed with the region's authorities development strategies for the key clusters of the regional economy, Delovaya Rossiya managers concluded that Tomsk is an ideal place for R&D centers and foreign investments. They offered using Delovaya Rossiya's resources for the promotion of the region's opportunities within the business community.
