08.11.2013

Tomsk universities, such as the state, polytechnic, pedagogical ones and one of control systems and radio electronics, have introduced their educational programs at the international exhibition China Education Expo in Beijing.

“This year it is the third business visiting mission of universities arranged by the department of higher education together with the Consortium of Tomsk universities. The competition for applicants increases; therefore Tomsk universities join their efforts fighting for new students. Both higher educational establishments and Tomsk Region, as a whole, benefit from these joint efforts”, said the leader of Tomsk delegation, head of the department for higher professional education Aleksey Pushkarenko.

More than 500 higher educational establishments from 38 countries and regions participated in the exhibition, including those from Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Russia, Singapore, Great Britain, etc. Russia was represented by 21 higher educational establishments, four of which were from Tomsk.

“A distinctive feature of the educational system of China is that applicants do not work directly with universities, China has a developed network of recruitment agencies which conclude agreements with universities and on the basis of them choose applicants for certain universities. It is with representatives of such agencies that our higher educational establishments worked with”, explained Aleksey Pushkarenko

In 2013 Administration of Tomsk Region acted as the coordinator of visiting educational missions of Tomsk universities to Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China, the purpose of which was to attract applicants to the region. Three countries where such missions took place demonstrate their effectiveness: while in 2012 the number of first-year students from Kazakhstan made up 1100 people, from Mongolia — 15, from China — 45, the recruitment of 2013 gave 1384 new students from Kazakhstan, 83 — from Mongolia and 156 — from China.
