Tomsk Region foreign trade turnover 260 million US dollars in the first half of 2011

Tomsk Region continues to be actively engaged in international relations: it trades with over 50 countries.

According to Tomsk Local Agency of the Federal State Statistics Service, foreign trade turnover of Tomsk Region over the first half of 2011 totaled 260m US dollars and decreased 27.5% against the same period of 2010. Exports account for over 75% of the foreign trade turnover — Tomsk Region continues to export more than import.

Structurally, against the same period of 2010, the share of non-CIS countries increased by 12% and totaled 76.7%, CIS turnover totaled 23.3%.

Key commodity exports are chemical products 64.3%, timber and wood products (lumber and rough timber, particleboard) 25.3%.

In the first half of 2011, Tomsk companies largely exported their products to the USA (almost 52% of total exports), France (10.6%), Uzbekistan (10.3%), and China (7.5%).

Imports in the first half of 2011 reduced by 34.4% against the same period of 2010. The import structure changed significantly: non-CIS imports grew 2.2 times and CIS imports shrank 4.1 times (in the first half of 2010 the trend was quite opposite: non-CIS imports declined 30% and CIS imports grew 1.5 times).

Import of chemical products in the first half of 2011 accounted for 49.6% of the total imports (including pharmaceuticals 25.2%). Import of machinery, equipment, and vehicles accounted for 23.6%, and imported food totaled 20.4%.

Over the period in question major importers were France (24.9%), China, and Kazakhstan (19.8% each).

According to a preliminary forecast by Tomsk Region Administration, in 2011 non-CIS trade turnover will grow to 600m US dollars, and CIS trade turnover will total around 200m US dollars.
