Tomsk Region topped innovation-targeted activity rating

Peterburgskaya Politika Foundation, Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, and RBK daily newspaper presented their regular Innovation Rating of Russia.

In their comments on the rating, the experts say that «Tomsk Region migrates from one rating to the next invigorating the experts with various innovation-related accomplishments." For this rating the experts were impressed by NPO Microgen’s plans to invest in 2011 1.7 billion rubles of own capital in final stages of construction of a plant for the manufacture of innovative pharmaceuticals in Tomsk. Commissioning of the plant is scheduled for 2013. A special point was made of the plans by Japanese Asahi Glass to build a $250 million glass factory in Tomsk Region, and the Semiconductor Research

Institute’s launching commercial production of light emitting diodes under the project of LED factory construction in Tomsk. The experts also mentioned that Tomsk Polytechnic University would participate in the selection of nominees for the 2012 Nobel Prizes in chemistry and physics, and spoke of a dozen of other plans.

Tatarstan is the second, followed by Krasnoyarsk and Perm Territories, and Irkutsk Region.
