In the first half-year 2012 Tomsk SEZ residents obtained tax benefits more than 9m rubles

In the first six months of 2012 Tomsk SEZ residents obtained customs privileges in the amount more than 9.2m rubles which is 7.3m rubles more than in the same period in 2011.

According to the Region Administration Press Service, over the first six months of 2012 the total number of customs declarations for the goods imported by the residents increased 38% versus the same period in 2011 (31 in the first half of 2012 vs 13 in 2011).

The customs value of the goods released in the first half of 2012 totaled almost 47m rubles (7m rubles in the same period of 2011).

The major portion of imports was parts for previously imported equipment by Tomsk SEZ residents. Among the imported goods were parts for the most modern 4G networks equipment produced by a joint venture Wireless Technology Center, Tomsk SEZ resident.

Over the first six months of 2012, 3,345 goods movement permits were issued which is 153% more than in the same period of 2011.

Tomsk Customs Office held two efficiency improvement meetings with the residents of the Tomsk SEZ and an advisory board meeting on current customs legislation application issues.

Background

In 2005, Tomsk Region won in the contest for the right to host a special economic zone of technical innovation type. On April 26, 2006, Russian President Vladimir Putin opened the first in Russia special economic zone in Tomsk. Currently, Tomsk SEZ has 59 registered residents.

Tomsk SEZ is located on two sites with the total area 207 hectares. The key areas of activity are ICT, electronic technologies, new materials, nano-, bio- and medical technologies.

Tomsk SEZ residents are provided with profit, property, transport and social tax preferences. They also benefit from reduced office and laboratory building lease rates and can import goods to the territory of the SEZ without paying any customs duties or taxes.

According to the Russian Ministry for Economic Development, the preferential treatment for business activity in the SEZ reduces the expenses of the resident companies by 20-30%.
