Tomsk Region forest industry in 2011 produced goods worth 7.6bn rubles

According to the Department for Development of Entrepreneurship and Real Economy, around 3 million cubic meters of wood, mainly softwood species, is harvested in Tomsk Region annually.

The annual allowable cut in the region is 39.4 million cu m, including 13.2 million cu m of softwood species.

Currently, the growth in harvesting volumes is constrained by a deficit of value added wood processing capacities. Today, the forest industry accounts for 2.5% of the industrial output of the region. Mainly small and medium enterprises are involved in the harvesting operations in Tomsk Region. There are two big particle board producers in the region: OOO Tomlesdrev and ZAO LPK Partner Tomsk. They are responsible for the biggest share of the growing output in the regional forest industry with harvesting volumes 460,000 cu m and 151,000 cu m respectively.

The key products are particle board, MDF board, lumber, round timber, structural lumber, wood structural elements, pencils, etc. In total, in 2011 the regional forest industry produced goods worth 7.6bn rubles.

The Department says that the produce of the regional forest industry is exported to 20 foreign countries. In 2011, wood exports of Tomsk Region grew 76% vs 2010. The regional forest industry headcount is more than 8,000 people.
