Tomsk SEZ residents are constructing buildings on the Southern Site

By the end of 2012 Stels Research and Manufacturing Company, a resident of the Tomsk SEZ is going to put into operation an administrative and production building.

Stels was one of the first residents of the Tomsk SEZ Southern Site to have passed the procedure of state expert review of the design documents and commenced the construction of a 3,600 sq. m building at 1 Sozidaniya Street in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Currently the construction is in full swing. Foundation works have been completed and the walls of the basement floor are being erected. In August the company is going to install the external translucent facade panels and a curtain wall. August is also a target month to have an independent modular gas boiler-house assembled and installed on site.

The high tech concept of the building was developed by Style Architectural Bureau, laureate of numerous contests, expositions and festivals. The design blends in the general architectural concept of the Southern Site. According to the development plan, from a bird's eye view the SEZ Site will look like a green carpet with scattered rock crystals sparkling in the sun rays – modern buildings made of steel and glass. That optic effect is achieved using innovative design solutions and structural glazing of the walls which meet the strict requirements of esthetics and energy efficiency.

According to Anatoly Shutin, Stels General Manager construction of own administrative and production building is a milestone event in the development of a company manufacturing high-tech products. All divisions of the company including the R&D center and production facilities will be accommodated in one building with comfortable labor conditions. More space will house modern lines for surface and selective mounting of electronic components and new production processes. As a next step the company will certify its products to ISO 9001 standard and enter the international markets as a full-fledged player.

"We are now completing the construction of the infrastructure on the Southern Site," says Aleksey Baryshev, General Director of the Tomsk SEZ. All the necessary utility networks have already been brought to the residents' places, so the companies can start building their own buildings on the allocated land plots. Solagift, Elcom+, Base LED Technology Center – Tomsk, International Center for Preclinical Studies and Drug Development are the residents going to construction sites in the near future.

Tomsk Special Economic Zone is one of the four zones of technical innovation type, established on December 21, 2005. It is located on two sites (Southern and Northern Sites) with total area of 207 hectares. The Tomsk SEZ has registered 57 residents with over 1,000 working places. The SEZ residents are implementing 10 foreign investment projects. The residents work in the following areas: ICT, electronics, new materials and nanotechnology, biotechnology and medical technologies.
