Tomsk Region the most active nanotechnology region of Russia

07.03.2012

Tomsk is among the leaders for its number of innovations and innovative organizations per capital and Tomsk universities far outclass universities in other regions.

The National Electronic Information Consortium analyzed the content of the publications by various organizations on nanotechnology issues and placed Tomsk Region inside top ten Russian regions for the number of nanotechnology-related publications.

At the same time, Tomsk universities and innovative companies are active in various nanotechnology projects and programs. The first university-based enterprise in partnership with Rusnano – Manel – was set up in Tomsk. It was created jointly with the Tomsk State University in 2010 with EleSi being a business partner.

Tomsk Region does research in all key areas of the nano-industry such as nano-coatings, nano-electronics, etc. A successful example of this work is large-scale projects involving creation of high-technology production facilities in Russia implemented by Tomsk universities jointly with partners from industry. The Tomsk State University and Altai Federal Research Center are working on developing a product line of glyoxal-based drugs. The Tomsk Polytechnic University and Novosibirsk-based NEVZ Soyuz are implementing a project involving creation of a modern and competitive facility for the manufacture of nanoceramic products for power electronics, electrical engineering, photonics, security systems, and oil and gas industry. The Tomsk University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics, the Tomsk Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Micran Research and Manufacturing Company are working on the development of a technology for the production of GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuits (highly mobile electron heterotransistors) on copper plated surfaces without using precious metals.

Under its INOTomsk'2020 project Tomsk should use every opportunity to support further successful development of nano-related fields, the more so because nano-electronics and nanotechnology are two of the seven stated priorities of the project.
