Tomsk Region and Rosatom signed an agreement under which Rosatom will invest in the development of the city of Seversk and the Siberian Chemical Combine 100 billion rubles before 2020.

At the Siberian Chemical Combine, Rosatom intends to build a plant for the production of solid nitride fuel for fast-neutron reactors and an ultramodern power complex which will become part of the BREST-OD-300 reactor with its own nuclear fuel cycle.

Previously, new generations of fast reactors were created on the Beloyarsky experimental ground in Sverdlovsk Region. Rosatom decided to move the BREST-300 reactor from Beloyarsky to Seversk after negotiations with the Governor of Tomsk Region and analysis of the opportunities at the Siberian Chemical Combine.

According to Sergey Zhvachkin, the agreement also envisages adoption of the concept of economic, social and cultural integration of Seversk and Tomsk and agglomeration of the two cities before February 1, 2013.

"That is indeed a breakthrough agreement, and today is a momentous day," said Sergey Zhvachkin in his congratulatory speech for the workers of the Siberian Chemical Combine on the day of their professional holiday. He also emphasized that the integration of the two cities will take into account the opinions of their citizens.
