The Governor of the Tomsk region, Sergey Zhvachkin held a meeting with Russian Education and Science Minister, Dmitry Livanov in Moscow. The heads of the region and the Ministry of Education and Science discussed the prospects for building inter-university student campus within the framework of the project “Tomsk embankments”.
Today surveying works are initiated on the territory of “Tomsk embankments” project, the territory for the construction of academic buildings, accommodation for students and lecturers, for infrastructure and social facilities is being defined. The project involves national research institutes such as: Tomsk State University and Tomsk Polytechnic University, TUSUR (Tomsk University of Control Systems radio technologies), Tomsk State Architecture-Building University, TSPU (Tomsk State Pedagogical University).
Sergey Zhvachkin proposed to the Minister to incorporate the construction of dormitories of 25 thousand square meters per university into the federal State Program “Education development” for 2013-2014.
The head of the Ministry of Education and Science promised to consider our proposal. We propose the federal centre to finance the construction of dormitories, the region in this case will undertake the preparation of sites and infrastructure, Sergey Zhvachkin noted. - Dmitry Viktorovich agreed that establishing state-of-the-art inter-university student campus is a necessary precondition for ensuring the leading positions of our universities in the international rankings.
We remind that these days the question is being discussed of establishing ranking by the Ministry of Education and Science of 15 leading universities of Russia, which will obtain special support for strengthening the material resources and development of research and education programs. According to preliminary estimates TOP-30 national universities assigned by the Ministry includes 3 Tomsk universities: Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), Tomsk State University (TSU) and TUSUR (Tomsk University of Control Systems radio technologies).
