Tomsk pencil factory to double the volume of production

06.11.2013

“The Siberian pencil factory of Tomsk” will be able to achieve these targets in 1,5–2 years, if the problem related to lack of raw materials is resolved.

The problem of cedar shortage was reviewed by the participants of a visiting meeting under the guidance of Andrey Knorr, the Deputy Governor for agro-industrial policy and nature use.  Nowadays 290 cubic meters of wood are remained at the factory’s wood storage place, which will be sufficient approximately for a week, considering that the enterprise continuously processes about thousand cubic meters within a month. This situation occurred after the major partner of the pencil factory the company “Sangik Les” stopped supplying wood.

In order to avoid shutdown of the enterprise Vice Governor, Andrey Knorr is intended to hold talks with forest operators to organize immediate wood supply to the pencil factory.

In order to solve this recurrent problem of raw materials shortage which is a significant deterrent to the company’s development, the enterprise is preparing an investment project for establishing a logging division within the company.  The factory expects to take on lease the logging sites, renovate and modernize sawmilling and pencil shops and, therefore, to increase total refining to 2-2,5 times up to 2,5 thousand cubic meters of wood per month.

Last year the enterprise produced 685 thousand cubic meters of pencil boards and more than 50 million of pencils.  In case of successful investment project implementation the factory plans to produce more than 250 million of pencils and 685 thousand cubic meters of pencil boards each year.

As the forms of state support it was suggested to include the company’s business plan among the regional priority projects, thus enabling to lease forest lands without tender and at reduced rates.

Today our goal is not only to keep the oldest and unique enterprise alive, but to achieve maximum possible production indicators” – Andrey Knorr underlined.

The factory products, which high quality has been recognized internationally are in demand at the market. The pencils are produced on special request for “Ikea”, “Lerua merlen”, etc. The company uses wood waste to produce skewers and electric wedge, the company’s nearest plans to introduce machine tools for manufacture of moth-proofing agents and children’s development kits - colouring puzzles with penciles.
