Centre of Expertise on the issues related to the World Trade Organization started functioning in October this year

On October 14, 2014 a solemn opening of an independent non-profit organization "Centre of Expertise on the issues related to the World Trade Organization (WTO)" (further 'Centre') was held.

The Centre was founded by Russian Federation, OJSC "Sberbank of Russia" and NIU "Higher School of Economy".

Key directions of the Centre activity include:

  • Assistance in the expertise of projects under development (including regional projects), of RF normative and legal acts for revealing the statements that do not conform the WTO norms and rules;
  • Legal support and counselling for business community at the internal and external markets by using WTO procedures;

Aleksey Ulyukaev, Minister on Economic Development of RF, Aleksey Likhachev, Deputy Minister on Economic Development of RF, and Maksim Medvedkov, Director of Trade Negotiations Department of the RF Ministry of Economic Development were appointed to be RF representatives in the Supervisory Board of the Centre.

Members of the Supervisory Board of the Centre include Yaroslav Kuzminov, Rector of NIU "Higher School of Economy", and German Gref, BOD Chairman of OJSC "Sberbank of Russia".

Elena Shapiro was appointed to be Director General of the Centre.
