The Tomsk Region Administration and the Israeli Embassy in Russia will create a working group to organize joint projects in various fields. This was agreed by the Governor Sergei Zhvachkin and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel in Russia Zvi Heifetz at the meeting, which was held today, on July 12, in the regional administration.

"Tomsk region and Israel have long and strong ties, - said the governor of Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin. - Tomsk universities collaborate with the universities of Tel Aviv and Haifa, Nobel laureate Dan Shechtman heads the international Board of the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University and was frequently in my office. There are joint projects in the sphere of high technologies and culture. However, I am sure; the potential of our cooperation is much wider."

Sergei Zhvachkin called agricultural industry, industry, medicine and pharmaceuticals as promising areas of cooperation.

The Governor thanked the Ambassador for his visit to Tomsk, where in 1956 Zvi Heifetz was born.

"Your family history is associated with the Tomsk ground, and this is one more pleasant occasion to build a long and mutually beneficial relationship", - said the head of the region.

Israel's Ambassador to Russia in his turn confirmed that pleased to see the place where he was born, although a trip to the Tomsk region is of working nature.

"We will definitely be expanding the list of joint projects and areas of cooperation. Apart from the traditional spheres - such as science and education, culture, and high-tech - a very promising field is tourism. I think when in Tomsk it is 25 degrees below zero, it is a real miracle for Siberians to come to the place where it is plus 25 degrees,"- said Zvi Heifetz.

The Ambassador also said that in order to determine the list of specific projects and for their implementation the working group headed by one of the vice-governors of Tomsk and the representative of the Israeli Embassy will be established.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Russia Zvi Heifetz plans to visit the National Research Tomsk State University, and to pay a visit to the special economic area "Tomsk" and Tomsk Choral Synagogue.
