Governors of Tomsk and Tokyo Discuss Collaboration

Governor of Tomsk Region Sergey Zhvachkin on his working visit to Japan has held a working meeting with governor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike.

The Head of the Region expressed his gratitude to his Tokyo counterpart for support of collaboration between Tomsk Region and Tokyo within the frame of the memorandum signed in 2015. As a part of the agreement, last year Tokyo experts participated in Tomsk ecological projects, while specialists from Tomsk familiarized with Japanese experience in household waste management. Furthermore, within the scope of memorandum every summer since 2015 Tomsk ping pong juvenile team participates in Asian juvenile sport games held in Tokyo.

Sergey Zhvachkin proposed to Yuriko Koike to improve collaboration with the Tomsk Region on climate research. The governor spoke about the project of Tomsk State University that has created the international network SecNet incorporating researchers of climate changes in Siberia. The data for the researches is provided by the network of research stations Mega Transect that spans for 2,500 kilometers from Arctic to Altai Mountains. The aim of the research is to reduce adverse anthropogenic environmental impact.
