"Over the past three years, Tomsk Region has confidently been among the five most advanced regions of the country," said Valentina Matvienko, speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament, following the results of the Region’s Days held in the Federation Council on October 21-23.
Valentina Matvienko thanked the delegation of the Tomsk region, headed by Governor Sergei Zhvachkin, "for the thorough preparation of the Days, the substantive dialogue on the committees, for the proposals made, for the innovative exhibition - one of the best that we have seen lately."
Valentina Matvienko noted that the Tomsk region is a real leader in the field of modern technologies, digitalization of the economy and the social sphere, and that over the past three years the region has confidently been among the five most advanced regions of the country. Separately, the speaker highlighted the innovative territorial center "INO Tomsk", combining high-tech production and science.
"This center needs to be used more actively when implementing national projects in the region," said Valentina Matvienko.
The Chairman of the Federation Council drew attention to the fact that such strategic sectors for the country as oil, gas, chemical, and nuclear are actively developing in the Tomsk region. Transport accessibility of territories is growing. The leadership of the region managed to establish regular air transportation between Tomsk, regional centers and remote northern villages. "It is very important that the region tries to cope with this task on its own by subsidizing such flights from the regional budget," the speaker of the Federation Council added.
Valentina Matvienko also noted the start of the reconstruction of the runway of the Tomsk International Airport and shared plans on building a new terminal. "All these measures will ensure maximum accessibility and quality of transport services for the population and, as a result, will make the life of citizens more comfortable and convenient,"
The Chairman of the Federation Council especially noted the successes of Tomsk farmers. Last year, the region ranked third in the Siberian Federal District in terms of growth in agricultural output, even outstripping the national average.
"Today, more than twenty major investment projects are being implemented in the agricultural sector of the region. The fishing industry is reviving. New processing plants are being built," the head of the upper house of the Russian parliament, emphasized.
"The Tomsk region embodies its motto "By labor and knowledge", being the "intellectual center" of all Siberia," the head of the House of Regions emphasized.
