Governor Vladimir Mazur Discussed the Siberia Development Strategy in the Federation Council

Governor of the Tomsk Oblast Vladimir Mazur attended the meeting of the Council for Siberia Development under the Chair of the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation held by speaker of the upper house of the Russian Parliament Valentina Matviyenko.

On the opening of the meeting the chair of the Federation Council noted that “Siberia can be called a true place of power”.

“The universities of Tomsk are famous worldwide,” Valentina Matviyenko emphasized among other things, “potential of Siberia should be fulfilled, first of all, through the improvement in living standards.”

The leaders of the Siberian regions, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Dmitry Vakhrukov, director of the Institute of Economic and Industrial Engineering of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valery Kriukov, chairman of the executive committee of the Interregional Association “Siberian Accord” Gennady Guselnikov and the representatives of the largest businesses operating in the Siberian Federal District took part in the meeting.

The Council discussed transport accessibility, human resources potential of the economy, gas supply, environmental and many other issues.

Commenting on the results of the meeting Governor Vladimir Mazur noted that the scientific and educational complex is a competitive advantage of the Tomsk Oblast.

“The pace of business development and new jobs depend on how deeply science is integrated into production. Construction of the Northern Latitudinal Route and the North-Siberian Railway, which will pass through the Tomsk Oblast and were discussed by the Council, will provide a serious impetus for the economy of the region and the entire Siberian Federal District,” Governor Vladimir Mazur pointed out.
