International business and recreational tourism in Tomsk Region grew by 7.7%

More than 22,000 foreign tourists visited Tomsk Region in 2010, which is 7.7% more than in 2009.
In 2010, positive inbound tourism trends were observed. The number of arrivals from abroad in 2010 was 22,100 people, which is 7.7% more than in 2009. The number of arriving tourists grew by 19% and businessmen by 25%. Tomsk is most attractive as a tourist destination for Germany, China, and the USA.

According to the Chairman of the Youth and Tourism Committee of the Russian Federation Council Vladimir Zhidkikh, foreign tourists are mainly attracted to Siberia by wooden architecture, research and educational complexes, and local legends.

The Senator also noted that according to the World Tourism Organization Russia’s annual foreign tourist capacity is up to 40 million people, whereas only about 2 million foreign visitors come to Russia today.
