Center That Will Train People How to Work With "BREST-300" Will Appear at the SCC Before 2023

06.12.2018

Siberian Chemical Combine (SCC) approved the project documentation for the construction of a training and information center for employees of the experimental-industrial power complex, which will be created at the SCC sites; it is planned to open them before 2023.

Since 2011, Rosatom has been implementing the Proryv project on the creation of a closed fuel cycle technology at SCC. BREST-OD-300 reactor plant with an on-site nuclear fuel cycle, as well as the production of uranium-plutonium (nitride) fuel for fast neutron reactors, will appear in Seversk as a part of a training and information center for employees of the experimental-industrial power complex. The launch of the reactor is scheduled for 2026.

According to the head of the training and information center for employees of the experimental-industrial power complex personnel training department, Stanislav Vtorushin, the staff of the nuclear fuel fabrication/refab module, the BREST-OD-300 reactor unit and the spent nuclear fuel reprocessing module will be trained at a special training and analytical complex. Its main part will be a full-scale simulator of the reactor unit.

The program model of the reactor allows to reliably simulate the "response" of systems and mechanisms to the actions of operators. The simulator allows instructors to change parameters and set operating conditions, including abnormal situations at their discretion.

The operational personnel of the BREST-OD-300 reactor will be required to undergo annual training in the amount of 140 hours per year, 80 hours of which are devoted to training sessions. The use of a full-scale simulator will significantly expand the experience of the personnel, consolidate the theory, will allow to develop ergonomic management skills, analyze and work out abnormal situations.
