Prime-Minister Supports Sergey Zhvachkin’s Initiative for Development of Renewable Energy

25.11.2013

Governor of Tomsk Region Sergey Zhvachkin spoke to Prime-Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev on the prospects of using renewable energy in the region. Tomsk Region demonstrated its exposition at II Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving International Forum ENES-2013, which took place in “Gostiny Dvor” in Moscow.

The key-note of the exposition of Tomsk visited by Prime-Minister Dmitry Medvedev was the prospects of renewable energy – wastes of agroindustrial and agricultural sectors, geothermal waters, sun and wind. Complex research of these prospects had been carried out by Tomsk authorities within a year together with the International Financial Corporation.

“Tomsk Region is a unique region with colossal natural reserves and high intellectual potential”, said Sergey Zhvachkin to Dmitry Medvedev. “We still we do not have centralized power supply everywhere: because of vast territories we have to supply many residential areas with heat and power from local sources. Therefore we need development of decentralized power supply in remote areas, including use of renewable energy”.

During the talk to Prime-Minister the Head of Tomsk Region underlined the need in supporting regional initiatives in the field of renewable energy on the governmental level. Dmitry Medvedev supported Sergey Zhvachkin by suggesting Tomsk Region should introduce its initiatives in the nearest time.

Governor of Tomsk also said that thanks to cooperation with the International Financial Corporation the regional authorities now have detailed information on all renewable resources in the region. “We have a certain and easily-forecasted sales market, innovative technological developments and, which is important, personnel. The next step is to create a mechanism for engaging renewable resources in the economy of the region”, said Sergey Zhvachkin.
