First Russian test field for difficult reserves development run will be created on the basis of Archin deposits in the Tomsk region, as was announced July 25 during the meeting of the federal working group for the actualization of the Education, research and development center INO Tomsk 2020 concept by Anatoly Verin,  Deputy CEO, chief geologist of Gazpromneft-Vostok, LLC.

The work must result in the technique of search and localization of difficult reserves and their increase in the commercial development. Sergey Zhvachkin, Tomsk region governor, claimed the field to be the first in Russia for difficult hydrocarbon reserves.

“Only 30 % hydrocarbon reserves are raised, it’s a crime to leave 70 % of oil in-situ. We need the technology to get many times more money by raising something we are now savagely burying into the ground,” said Sergey Zhvachkin.

He also pointed out that “We need different authorities to combat a century-long problem. This requires investing into new technologies starting right now.”

Igor Goncharov, Head of subsurface resources management and oil and gas extraction complex department of Tomsk region administration specified that presently on the basis of Scientific and technical center of innovative subsurface resources management Association there is the uniform geological information base.  The working group includes representatives of Ministry for the Protection of the Environment and Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, ROSGEO company, Tomsk region authorities, Moscow, Tomsk and Novosibirsk research organizations, oil and gas production enterprises and parent vertically integrated companies of the region.

“Meanwhile Gazprom Neft funds the works on the apportioned field, added Igor Goncharov, the region’s largest difficult oil reserve is owned by the Gazpromneft-Vostok.

March 5, 2014 Sergey Zhvachkin, Tomsk region governor, and Sergey Donskoy, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Russian Federation signed an agreement for the cooperation in the sphere of geology and subsurface resources management between the region and the Ministry. According to the document, Tomsk region will feature test field for the development of innovative search technologies, exploration and development of unconventional sources of raw hydrocarbons.
