Siberian chemical plant launches new products for rocket and space industry

16.06.2014

Siberian chemical plant (part of Rosatom’s TVEL) has launched another, forth batch of lithium tetrafluoroborate for one of Russian rocket and space industry companies.

Lithium tetrafluoroborate is electrolytes component in chemical sources of electric energy. It’s a non-nuclear product of Siberian chemical plant with all necessary quality characteristics. In 90s SCP possessed unique technology of its preparation. In the beginning of 2000s trial installation was put on standby and the topic was closed due to absence of demand.

According to Andrey Medyanik, head of special designing engineering department of the plant, in 2014 the plant was contacted by energy sources producers for ROSCOSMOS - Federal Space agency of the Russian Federation. Foreign companies didn’t manage to deliver the required quality. Hence the national importance, SCP specialists restored pilot production unit, additional equipment has been purchased. The work was supervised by SCP development director Andrey Galata.

At the moment lithium tetrafluoroborate is supplied to the customer as starting crude for the electrolyte production under contract of 2014. As part of import substitution program ready-made electrolyte production based on lithium tetrafluoroborate and raw material production for this saline on the premises of SCP is also under consideration.
