Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation discusses development of international and foreign economic relations of Siberian regions

November 17, the Coordination Council of the Interregional Association Siberian Agreement on cross-border cooperation and foreign economic relations held a meeting at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
Key topics discussed at the meeting were implementation of the presidential national project International Cooperation and Export in Siberian regions, regulation of timber exports, development of international humanitarian cooperation and interregional cooperation in the Eurasian Economic Union.
The meeting was attended by Vasily Potyomkin, Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region for Economy, Investment Policy and Property Relations, and Artem Konev, Acting Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region for Agro-Industrial Policy and Natural Resource Management.
The Coordination Council considered and adopted a number of proposals from the Tomsk region including those on further opening of motor vehicle border crossings to export timber products, improvement of legislation in the sphere of collection, processing and export of wild fruits. These initiatives are aimed at providing incentives for developing deep processing, increasing competitiveness of these products and entering new export markets.
Opportunities for developing international humanitarian cooperation were also discussed, including participation in Rossotrudnichestvo projects on exchange programs for young people, volunteering development, international cooperation of non-profit organizations and intermunicipal cooperation.
"Tomsk region is ready to become involved in implementing these international projects to a greater extent. Tomsk universities' potential, their initiatives in innovation and technological development, as well as developed intercultural environment, which includes more than 16 thousand foreign students from 90 countries from all over the world," said Vasily Potyomkin, Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region for Economy, Investment Policy and Property Relations.
